Needs Assessments

HR Needs Assessment

The HR Needs Assessment includes an extensive review of your HR practices and structure.  We start by asking questions about your corporate culture and business plans.  Then, we begin reviewing your HR documents.  We also ask you to tell us about performance or other employee relations issues.  And, we review your administrative processes.

Your personal HR Needs Assessment includes:

  • risk reduction and insurance recommendations
  • high-level legislative compliance analysis
  • review of documented handbooks, policies and announcements
  • review of your staff structure, budget, compensation, and benefits plan
  • administrative improvement recommendations
  • recommendations on improvements on employee relations and performance
  • identification of policy documentation gaps

Preparing for your HR Needs Assessment
We recommend that you prepare for your assessment by gathering your documentation together, and providing any information that you feel may be useful.  Your documentation may include some of the following:

  • written vision statement, mission statement and corporate values
  • business or operational plan
  • corporate objectives and goals
  • performance management system
  • written performance reviews
  • employee handbook
  • HR manual
  • staff announcements
  • organizational chart or list of staff and reporting structure
  • job descriptions
  • compensation plan
  • labor budget
  • outsourcing contracts
  • payroll records
  • list of open positions
  • copies of current or sample job vacancy advertisements
  • benefits plan and announcements
  • personnel files
  • training and development plan
  • insurance policies
  • dispute resolution policy
  • employment agreements
  • offer letters
  • new hire paperwork package or checklist
  • safety policy

If you do not have all of the items listed, do not worry.  That is what we expect!  The more records you have in place before the meeting, the stronger start we can get with the assessment.  However, part of the assessment process is determining what polices and process you need in place, so that we can recommend a plan for improving your HR process.
